Perennials as groundcovers

Many perennials make great eco-friendly and beautiful groundcovers that can be used as a lawn replacement in small areas, such as courtyards or under the trees. A thyme lawn, for example, will never need mowing, will have pretty pink flowers in the summer time and some kinds remain green all year round even in the winter.
